Welcome to the Weekly Mom Moment, a sanctuary for every parent journeying through the ups and downs of raising children. As a mother of two teenagers and a tween, I bring to you snippets from my world, sprinkled with bits of reality, humor, and reassurance that you are not alone. On this podcast, we delve into various everyday issues parents encounter, ranging from navigating hormones and mental health storms to teens' social circles and newfound interests.
We all have those days when we feel overwhelmed with life's demands, from planning family holidays to balancing work with parental duties. I share with you my personal strategies for managing the chaos and finding some calm, such as home purging, decluttering, and introspection. I challenge you to do the same.
In this episode, I reflect on my journey of launching my podcast and coaching career sparked amidst the pandemic. You'll hear an entry from my personal journal dating back to June 2020, marking a significant point in my life when I decided to brave the waters of the unknown. 086. The Letdown Effect: Why post goal achievement can leave you feeling deflated and defeated
The "letdown effect" after accomplishing a goal can be described as a phenomenon where individuals might experience a sense of emptiness, lack of fulfillment, or even mild depression after achieving a significant objective. This emotional response can be counterintuitive, as one might expect to feel only joy and satisfaction upon reaching a goal.
Several factors contribute to the letdown effect:

Anticipation and Expectations: Often, individuals build up expectations and anticipation around achieving a particular goal. The reality of reaching the goal may not match the idealized version created in the mind, leading to a sense of letdown.

Identity and Purpose: Working towards a goal can provide a sense of purpose and structure. Once the goal is achieved, individuals may grapple with a temporary loss of direction or question what comes next, which can contribute to feelings of emptiness.

Transition Period: Moving from a state of striving for a goal to the post-achievement phase can be a significant life transition. The abrupt change in focus and daily activities may create a sense of unease or disorientation.

External Validation: If the goal was driven by external validation or societal expectations, achieving it may not bring the expected sense of fulfillment. External validation can be fleeting, and the absence of continued praise or acknowledgment may contribute to the letdown.

Setting New Goals: Failure to set new goals after accomplishing one can contribute to a feeling of stagnation. Having ongoing objectives and aspirations can provide a sense of purpose and direction.
To mitigate the letdown effect, it's helpful to recognize that post-achievement feelings are normal and temporary. Setting new goals, reflecting on the journey, and finding meaning beyond the specific accomplishment can aid in navigating this transitional phase. Additionally, seeking support from friends, family, or a mentor can provide guidance and perspective during this period.

When your son has a game that is so lit by passion- this game becomes a goal for a carrier.
As parents, we are learning the ins and outs of this hockey world and where it all goes and grows and what the heck it all means! Such as Monday- we learnt that he can be acquired by a team without signing yet...and they own his rights. We are continuing to learn what this means, if anything at all, and put our hopes and dreams for our sons goals into the universe for what is meant to be will be. Following hearts, passions and working f-ing hard!
